Workhuman, founded in 1990 and co-headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, and Framingham, Massachusetts, operates on a global scale. Their technology platform supports approximately seven million employees across 180 countries, is available in over 30 languages, and has facilitated over 100 million instances of human connection and recognition. Workhuman’s mission centers on creating more human workplaces by offering cloud-based platforms that facilitate social recognition, continuous performance management, and employee development. The announcement of Human Intelligence represents a significant step forward in the company’s technology development, and its ability to positively drive workplace culture and engagement. Company Founder and CEO Eric Mosley has called it the most important release in Workhuman’s history.
According to the company’s press release on the announcement: “The Human Intelligence 2025 Release supercharges Workhuman’s Social Recognition® platform, embedding into everyday workflows AI-powered features such as Workhuman iQ Snapshots, Recognition Advisor, Culture Hub, and Reward Stories. These easy-to-use tools ensure that employees’ shared recognition moments equip HR leaders with the most impactful data and insights that contribute to business ROI”. Let’s dive into some of the details behind the Human Intelligence announcement.
Product/Service Offering Impact
The Workhuman Intelligence solution encompasses several distinct capabilities, each offering organizations tools to support them to better understand how employees’ recognition moments can translate into business insights and ultimately drive performance. The Workhuman Intelligence release includes:
Workhuman iQ and the AI Assistant – Real-time, powerful insights that highlight the impact recognition has on retention and engagement. The Workhuman AI can coach every employee on how recognition leads to meaningful change and connects everyone to company goals and values. The tool also places recognition best practices embedded directly in the flow of work, facilitating the optimal use and application of recognition instances. Identifying hidden skills.
Recognition Advisor – A real-time AI coach that trains users how to deliver recognition that amplifies every “good job” and “thank you” message to be more personal, meaningful, and tied to company values. The tool gives users helpful AI prompts and examples to turn a simple “thank you” into an impactful, feel-good moment of gratitude. The tool is not meant to replace an employee’s words, but rather to inspire them to create the best recognition possible.
Culture Hub – A personalized, AI-powered place where curated recognition moments are showcased demonstrating impactful recognition moments in support of key initiatives and company values while strengthening employee collaboration and motivation. The Culture Hub creates a more meaningful, personalized place to engage with your company’s values, successes, and employees.
Reward Stories – These are sharable recognition moments that represent the life-enriching impact that recognition and award redemption have on employees. These posts allow award recipients the opportunity to express their gratitude for the coworkers who recognize them and the company that provides such opportunities. Recipients can extend the recognition and rewards experience to include how impactful and meaningful rewards have been in augmenting their lives.
Additionally, the Human Intelligence release includes several important updates for a company’s rewards and recognition program administrators. These updates include an updated Workhuman Admin Hub with improved administrative capabilities, increased program visibility, and several updates in reporting capabilities which will allow program administrators to have better insight into program activity and will facilitate better decision making overall.
Customer Impact
For existing Workhuman customers, these new capabilities should drive rapid value, as they build upon the customer’s historical set of recognition data and can be rapidly enabled – helping to create almost immediate impact. As an additional value-add for customers, these new features and capabilities are included in the current release are included in current customer contracts and no additional subscriptions or fees are required. Workhuman’s Human Intelligence is in General Availability and is available to all customers.
The potential for customers is significant. By applying advanced intelligence to performance, culture, engagement, impact, and team dynamics data – Human Intelligence can help customers answer important questions and unlock insights that have always been there but have up until now been hidden in their own data.
H3 HR Insights
In the launch video accompanying the Human Intelligence release, Workhuman CEO Eric Mosley stated that “The number one most important thing in AI technology is the training data.” And what Workhuman is delivering is a trove of meaningful, authentic, and important data upon which their AI models can analyze – the actual recognition moments that take place in the organization.
Workhuman Human Intelligence uses AI to tap into the recognition activities of a company’s employees to unlock deep insights on people, relationships, projects, impact, performance, values, talent, skills, and even biases and micro-aggressions. When these moments are captured at scale, and deeply analyzed with Workhuman’s AI, the organization can then begin to ask important questions about talent, skills, teamwork, and much more.
These can be questions like “Who are making the most significant contributions to our projects?” “Who are the best collaborators in the organization?” and “Who are the people who inspire their colleagues the most?” – and much more. Truly, over time, you should be able to ask the Human Intelligence any question about talent and performance that is relevant to the organization.
The potential here is applying AI to unlock the insight into some of the most valuable data an organization possesses – the feedback and recognition given from employee to employee in the course of their work. This is a leap forward from most other transaction-based HR technologies and the AI that has been developed for them.
In those systems, we tend to ask for much more simplistic, one or perhaps two-dimensional data. We ask questions about policies, or leave accruals, or time off, or interview schedules, or perhaps skills attainment by employees. While valuable information, very often the HR leader or manager must use that information as an input or as a starting point to build upon to find out what they really need to know.
A great example of the potential of Workhuman Intelligence to surpass the capabilities of transactional HR tools was demonstrated in the product launch video. Using the Workhuman AI Assistant, a manager asks for help to find a mentor for a specific member of their team. The assistant then leverages AI and the rich foundation of recognition data to produce a recommendation for the best person for the role of mentor and provides reasons and context for that specific recommendation. Traditional, transactional systems might have forced that manager to manually run reports or queries searching for people with specific skills, with the “right” experience and tenure, and in a suitable location – and they may not have even uncovered the best recommendation after doing all that manual work. After all that searching the manager would still have to make their best guess for who to approach for the mentoring role. The Human Intelligence solution fast tracks all that searching and analysis to present an immediate recommendation with context and reasoning to the manager. And that is just one simple example, imagine the potential of this kind of capability across the wide spectrum of management, coaching and development. We are excited to see what is next.
Congratulations to Workhuman and we look forward to following the progress and development of Human Intelligence in the coming months and years.
