HR Florida: How They’re Evolving HR
Originally posted: August 8, 2010 on TrishMcFarlane.com
As conference season starts up again, there seem to be more and more in the HR space that are trying new ideas and hitting on some areas that will really help evolve the HR and recruiting industry. I’m excited to be speaking at one such conference this month. HR Florida.
HR Florida is a state affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). They have been cutting edge for the last several years in terms of social media and this year is no different. I’ll be on a panel discussing Why Social Media Skills are Essential for the HR Practitioner on Monday, August 30th. But that is not all that makes this a “MUST go” conference for professionals across the country and around the globe. There will be HR practitioners speaking and sharing their stories of what they are doing day-to-day in their organizations to address real issues and I’ll be checking out as many sessions as possible. I’m especially interested in the sessions about international HR and recruiting, risk management, and healthcare. Check out the full line-up HERE.
What I find most interesting and inspiring though is the HR Florida State Council is brining in a special opportunity for students. They are looking forward to our future HR and recruiting professionals and helping bring them into the fold now by holding a FREE student event called HR Road Trip. Students can sign up and come to the Sandlake Room in the convention center at the Rosen Shingle Creek resort to hear amazing speakers like Brett Farmiloe, author and founder of Pursue the Passion and Social Media Manager for Jobing.com. They will also hear from Chuck Salvetti, Manager of Student Programs at the Society for Human Resource Management and Ron Pilenzo, President & Chief Executive Officer of The Global HR Consultancy and former President & Chief Operating Officer of the Society for Human Resource Management.
They will also get to meet and learn from China Miner-Gorman, former Chief Operating Officer and Chief Global Member Engagement Officer of the Society for Human Resource Management. China is a professional with over 30 years of experience in human resources. She is currently Editor-at-Large for SmartBrief Workforce and also writing her own human resource blog. With a line up like that, these students will surely find inspiration as they embark on a career in the human resources industry.
To register for the student event, please send an email with your contact information to studentevent@hrflorida.org. Check-in opens at 5:15 PM on Sunday, August 29, 2010. If you’re not a student, be sure to register for the full conference HERE. I look forward to meeting everyone in Orlando in a few weeks! If you’re going to be there, let us know in the comments.
