Monday Morning: The Search

It was a cold, rainy weekend where I live and that gave way to many hours indoors with my kids.  We enjoyed our time together doing many things.  Our greatest fun was reading Shel Silverstein poems to each other.  I had not read Where The Sidewalk Ends in several years so each poem was like a new surprise that then felt really familiar and comfortable.  I thought I’d share one with you this morning as a nice way to start the week:

The Search

I went to find the pot of gold

That’s waiting where the rainbow ends.

I searched and searched and searched and searched

And searched and searched, and then-

There it was, deep in the grass.

Under an old and twisty bough.

It’s mine, it’s mine, it’s mine at last…

What do I search for now?

I think it’s nice to remember that no matter where we work or what we do in life, there is innate feeling of always wanting something more.  As soon as we reach a goal, we immediately start thinking of what comes next.

Take time today and be present in the moment.  If you have recently achieved a goal, just savor it.  We don’t always have to be searching for the next pot of gold.
